Creative writing classes
Discover our relaxed evening classes in creative writing for mixed abilities.
We run a 10-week evening course in creative writing in the University's autumn and spring terms. The courses are open to º£½ÇÍø students, staff and members of the public (age 16+).
They are suitable for all ability levels and take place on Wednesday evenings on campus. They are an opportunity to learn new skills or for existing/developing writers to polish existing talents.
Subject to tutor and room availability, we run a course over the summer, which can vary in length from six to ten weeks.
Explore Creative Writing (Summer 2026)
During the summer, we are running a relaxed eight-week writing course. This engaging summer course is all about playing with words, exploring new ideas and trying out fresh ways to write.
Across the weeks, we’ll experiment with beginnings and endings, weave atmosphere into stories, bring characters to life and explore poetry. We’ll also have a go writing in different styles and story forms through fun, no-pressure exercises that build skills you can apply to fiction, life writing, poetry and beyond.
The course is suitable for both new and more experienced writers looking to rediscover their creativity, try new approaches or simply enjoy writing in good company.
Our tutor will provide feedback on work produced as part of the course, but will not be able to provide additional feedback outside of this.
Please note that this class is not open to Under 16s.
